The West Hallam Scarecrow Trail is an annual event coinciding with West Hallam’s Well Dressing Week. It is well established as a firm favourite in the village calendar - the first one having taken place in July 2009. The event provides lots of fun and community involvement and at the same time raises funds for a number of local good causes.

Something to plan for on these dark winter nights…
West Hallam Scarecrow Trail 2026 and we’re excited to announce the categories so you can start plotting your creations from the sofa! 📷 Main Trail Categories Traditional Scarecrows – think classic straw-stuffed characters, overalls, hats and friendly (or fearsome!) faces. 📷 Sports and Games – from rugby and football to board games and video games, if it’s a sport or a game, it belongs on the trail! 📷 Children’s Mini-Scarecrow Competition For our younger creators, the wooden spoon mini-scarecrows theme this year is: “Kings, Queens and Castles” – tiny royals, brave knights, dragons and towers all welcome! So while the evenings are long and chilly, why not start sketching ideas, collecting bits and bobs, and planning your perfect scarecrow? Full entry details and dates will follow later – but for now, let the imagination (and the glue sticks) begin!
